U29 chasing SS Headlands
12th March 1915.
This photo was taken from the deck of the British Steamer Headlands U29 giving chase at full speed.
After heading towards a burning ship, the SS Indian City which U29 had torpedoed earlier after she refused to stop.
Headlands turned away on sighting the submarine, U29 gave chase and ordered her to stop, the order was ignored so the submarine drew off and fired a single torpedo, hitting her abaft the engine room, 8 miles South of the Scilly Isles.
The U boat was chased off by patrol craft and the ship taken in tow but she sank one mile South of Scilly. Her crew were towed into port by patrol craft.
