1904 British Pith Helmet (Identified). Brass emblem not original to hat.

At age 19, enlisted in the 1st Hertfordshire Regiment on March 1st, 1912



Transferred to 8th Manchester Regiment (No.2061) on February 25th, 1914 (18th Russell St. Hertford?). Worked as a printer’s compositor at A.C. Lindle, (12th Albert St. Manchester).



Sailed for Egypt on September 10th, 1914.



Detached from Battalion for duty on Cyprus on September 19th 1914 until January 17th 1915.



Landed on Gallipoli with the Battalion in May of 1915.



Evacuated from Gallipoli with shell shock on August 10th, 1915.



Admitted to Nazarieh School Hospital on August 14th, 1915. Evacuated to England and sent to 4th London General Hospital (Grove Lane, London), then Transferred to 2nd Western General Hospital (Manchester). Disembodied on February 23rd, 1919.

Colors: Horizontal ribbon of black, red and green (now faded with the sun and looking more mike blue, pink and yellow). These represent the Rifle colors originally on the 5th VB uniforms. No other Manchester regiment Territorial battalion wore this.
