Boeing EA-18G Growlers Deployed by US Navy


Two EA-18Gs conduct a test flight. Photo: Boeing The Boeing EA-18G Growler airborne electronic attack aircraft has entered operational servcie with the U.S. Navy. It is replacing the Navy’s current AEA platform, the EA-6B Prowler built by Northrop Grumman, which has been in service since 1971. A derivative of the two-seat F/A-18E/F Block II Super Hornet, the EA-18G is the only air combat platform currenlty in servcie that delivers full-spectrum Airborne Electronic Attack (AEA) capabilities along with the targeting and self-defense capabilities derived from the F/A-18E/F Block II Super Hornet. Growlers will be operating from the deck of aircraft carriers as well as from land-based airfields. The EA-18G joined the Navy’s aircraft fleet in 2008, when it was introduced to fleet training squadron VAQ-129. Boeing, acting as the weapon system integrator and prime contractor, leads the EA-18G Growler industry team, which also includes Northrop Grumman, Raytheon and General Electric Aircraft Engines.

Raytheon UK to Supply Mode S MSSR Systems to Romania

Paris, France (SPX) Jun 24, 2011 -Raytheon has been selected to supply Mode S Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR) systems to the Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration, ROMATSA. Under the contract, signed in Bucharest, Raytheon UK will provide dual-channel, Condor Series 300 systems for the en route radar sites at Romania's Henri Coanda (Otopeni) International Airport, Constanta International Airport and Arad International Airport during a 20-month program. "In order to meet European Union requirements regarding air safety, quality and security, ROMATSA will install Mode S MSSR systems produced by Raytheon, for the first time on the Romanian territory," said Adrian Remus Serban, operations director, ROMATSA. The Indian aircraft industry is still in its nascent stages of growth. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is the only significant player, manufacturing aircraft and engines, albeit under license production. Even so, most of the materials and material technologies have been sourced from the original manufacturers (OEMs) of the engines and aircraft. In the recent past, a number of new material technologies have been recently introduced which are required in the production of Sukhoi aircraft (Su-30) and its engine (AL31FP).
