Next Gen Helicopter Operations Surveillance System (HOSS) Camera Comes To US Navy

Kongsberg, Norway (SPX) Apr 18, 2011 -Following extensive product development and factory and sea trials, Kongsberg Maritime have successfully delivered the first of its new generation of innovative ultra low light cameras to the US Navy, via Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), for use within the existing Kongsberg supplied Helicopter Operations Surveillance System (HOSS) for amphibious class ships.

The new high resolution camera is a drop-in replacement for the previous generation HOSS camera, allowing for a cost-effective and seamless system performance upgrade.

Featuring significant advances in core imaging sensor technology and packaged for the harshest naval environments, the camera provides a performance step change in affordable low-light shipboard surveillance.

Performance improvements include: increased camera light sensitivity, image contrast and a wider dynamic range, which results in improved image quality and range performance even in extremely low-light night time conditions.

The camera also features a 10 times optical zoom lens, sealed nitrogen purged aluminium housing and thermostatically controlled window heater.

Raytheon UK to Supply Mode S MSSR Systems to Romania

Paris, France (SPX) Jun 24, 2011 -Raytheon has been selected to supply Mode S Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR) systems to the Romanian Air Traffic Services Administration, ROMATSA. Under the contract, signed in Bucharest, Raytheon UK will provide dual-channel, Condor Series 300 systems for the en route radar sites at Romania's Henri Coanda (Otopeni) International Airport, Constanta International Airport and Arad International Airport during a 20-month program. "In order to meet European Union requirements regarding air safety, quality and security, ROMATSA will install Mode S MSSR systems produced by Raytheon, for the first time on the Romanian territory," said Adrian Remus Serban, operations director, ROMATSA. The Indian aircraft industry is still in its nascent stages of growth. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is the only significant player, manufacturing aircraft and engines, albeit under license production. Even so, most of the materials and material technologies have been sourced from the original manufacturers (OEMs) of the engines and aircraft.
